Engineering/HumorUp

Warning:

If you intend to apply for an engineering job at Solar & Thermal Systems, you must be prepared to answer the question to the best of your ability.  This is *not* a joke.

Here are two sample punch lines.

  • The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
  • The glass has a safety factor of two.

Life is short.  Too many folks take themselves far too seriously.  It is not a requirement that the punch line be funny outside of any particular engineering discipline.  Jargon is OK, self deprecating humor is ok too.  The line doesn't even have to be unique, we've heard a lot of these over the years.  Chances are better than even that the line you submit will be on the list already. That's OK.

If you are truly unable to provide a punch line then, you may attach the entire text of another engineering joke.  Extra credit will be given for original material, while simply googling engineering jokes will probably not generate a favorable perception of your talents.

Failure to provide a response automatically disqualifies you for anything above a junior supervised position.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I'm going to repeat this.  This is a company policy, approved by the chairman of the board of directors.  All engineers at Solar & Thermal Systems are required to provide a punch line to the following joke:

  • What's the difference between an optimist, a pessimist and an engineer?
  • An optimist sees a glass as half full, a pessimist sees a glass as half empty, and an engineer sees a glass...??? (see above)

Please don't test us on this point.  You can either freely comply, or by not participating indicate that you do not share the values of the company.
