In a thousand years the debate will have ended. Society will use energy from nuclear reactions.

We can't predict the applications and the ways it will be transformed, but there is little doubt that fission or fusion or catalyzed nuclear decay will power just about everything.
Don't get me wrong: I love nuclear energy! It's just that I prefer fusion to fission. And it just so happens that there's an enormous fusion reactor safely banked a few million miles from us. It delivers more than we could ever use in just about 8 minutes. And it's wireless!

He's talking about Solar of course, and that's how we'll make through the next millennium.  We don't need to wait for the breakthroughs, we can get started today.
