PV

The greatest advantage of STS over PV is capital cost.

• PV systems cost about $8/Watt.  
• Efficiency is about 14% at the panels, and about 92% at the inverter.
• Output declines with time
• Manufacture is energy intensive
• Toxic chemicals required during manufacture
• Clean-room product
• Fragile components
• Replacement components must be matched to existing components
• Minimal overload capability
• Heavy on roof > 5lb / sq ft

In all fairness, PV has some advantages too.

• Quiet / Silent
• No moving parts
• High reliability with battery backup
