The greatest advantage of STS over Wind is deployment options.

• Wind systems cost about $?/Watt.
• Limited geographic deployable regions
• Must operate w/asynchronous generators
• No dark-start capability
• Large real estate footprint/exclusion zone
• Unpredictable hours of operation
• Moderate maintenance costs
• Multiple permitting requirements

In all fairness, Wind has some advantages too.

• Quiet, fascinating to watch.
• Few moving parts
• Efficiency is about 98% in the transmission, 96% in the generator.
• Moderate overload capacity
• Proven record of success
